ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
I'm a passionate artist and entrepreneur hailing from Reykjavik, Iceland. Creativity has been the driving force of my life since a young age. From practicing graphic design, book design, game design, and designing digital products to diving into the world of documentary filmmaking, I've always had a profound appreciation for creativity and the visual arts.
However, my journey as an abstract painter began in my adult years. As a child, I loved painting and held exhibitions in my hometown. However I acheived top grades in all subjects except for my junior painting class in school, where I received my lowest grade so I began to doubt my talent as an artist and stopped painting altogether, until the COVID-19 pandemic provided an unexpected opportunity to rediscover my passion.
Inspired by my father's foray into oil painting during the pandemic, I delved back into the mesmerizing world of art, experimenting with different styles and studying art history on the side. With each stroke of the brush, I rediscovered a boundless freedom of expression, captivated by the raw energy and emotion that only abstract art can evoke.
My current body of abstract work is deeply rooted in my Icelandic heritage, sometimes drawing inspiration from the breathtaking landscapes and mystical elements of nature that surround me. Each painting embodies a unique fusion of sophistication and playfulness, inviting viewers to explore the intricate layers of meaning within.
But there's more than meets the eye in these captivating works. Embedded within the layers of paint sometimes lie hidden messages or textures, a delightful surprise for those who take a closer look. These unexpected elements inject a sense of intrigue, mystery, or playfulness, adding an extra dimension to the viewing experience.
My painting style consists of intuitive strokes, aiming to infuse my pieces with a sense of timeless elegance juxtaposed with a modern edge and different textures. Additionally, I specialize in mixed media, often utilizing oil or acrylic painting techniques alongside spray paint, charcoal, and various textures to create dynamic and visually intriguing compositions.
In addition to abstract art, I also indulge in pop art. Through playful manipulation of everyday objects and cultural clichés, I aim to provoke thought and evoke laughter, offering a fresh perspective on familiar narratives and exploring what stories can be told through a painting with an angle below the knee in our everyday life.
